A truly truly beautiful scene.
One of my favourites through all anime.
Since the film is so ambiguous one can only notion, that the reflections of Utena and Anthy in the water...is their destiny, who they will become.
What does everyone else think?

The song is Toki ni Ai wa by Okui Masami.
For Those Karaoke types like myself:

This rose is our destiny. michibikare.
futari wa ima. mou ichido deau.
donna toki mo.
ano yakusoku. wasurenaide
yatto... koko made kita yo
toki ni ai wa tsuyoku
hito no kokoro wo kizutsuke mo suru. keredo Ah
yume wo atae. yuuki no naka ni
itsumo hikari kagayaite
ai wa tsuyoku
hito no kokoro wo. ugokashite yuku dakara Ah
futari de iru kitto sekai wo
kaeru tame ni soshite subete wa
hitotsu no chikara ni... naru...

  • No matter which pairing you like in this series, no matter who you think Utena and Anthy should end up with, no matter whether or not you even like this movie or the series itself, you simply cannot say you don't like this scene. It's one of (if not the most) the beautiful moments in any anime, ever.

    Thumbs up for true love!

  • I think Anthy and Utena in the movie have what I like to call a "Superhero Complex"... they wear the dueling outfits and they're different, stronger people. I like to believe that the reflection in the water is a way of showing the viewer that for both of them, dancing with the other meant a lot, to the point where the line between their dueling personas and their regular selves was blurred.

  • @ArcaJ Hm, I never saw it that way and even now I find it hard to do. Plus, I think it'd be more awesome that way. XD I guess you're right, but I can't see it as yuri. Besides, (I don't even remember what I posted the first time, it's been too long XD) it bothers me when a series as awesome as this one, with so much about it, is mainly described as yuri, like that's all there is to it. I don't know if that's beside the point or not, but I wanted to elaborate. :P

  • @Shampalwe Actually, the entire series is about Utena and Anthy being in love with each other. The movie is merely the final realization of that love. In the series (SPOILERS) Utena wanted to become a prince to save Anthy from a terrible fate She only assumed that she loved the Prince because she was too young to remember when they met. But the whole reason she was able to free Anthy was due to their love. Even Ikuhara says they are a romantic couple.

  • @SporadicTiger Thank you for that. I see a new piece of symbolism every time I watch this film.

  • @Shampalwe Well... they kiss and Ikuhara likes lesbians. And thinks of them as a romantic couple... ummmmmm....

  • @YuffieDon Alritey! As soon as i finish up on Marimite :) Though i don't think i'll follow what is going on but that's not gonna stop me watchin', i don't think.

  • @KeybladePirate

Watch the TV series first, then treat the movie as a separate entity.

  • So. Many. Friggin. Roses.

  • This is a really nice and beautiful scene.

  • Ok, should i watch this? Everyone is gonna say yeah but i mean, i'm curious but everyone goes on about how difficult it is to follow. Is it impossible to get? Cuz i really enjoyed Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle but it's not like i was certain of any of it.
