Detailed video information below, please read:

DEMONSTRATION: Multiple Delays - Boss DD-3 + TC Electronic Nova Delay + Line 6 DL4 (in that order in the effects chain)

SETTINGS:
Boss DD-3 - Basic digital delay repeats
Nova Delay - Reverse delay
Line 6 DL4 - High repeats for wash out effect

ADDITIONAL PEDALS: Boss PH-3, Boss RV-5, Gig Rig Pro 14

AMP: Hiwatt Lead 100 Head
CAB: Mesa Boogie Recto 2x12
GUITAR: Les Paul Standard
SONG: 'Magnum Opus' by Vinyl Future

This is a demonstration of the three delay pedals on my floorboard used in conjunction with one another. The Boss DD-3 is used for a standard digital delay 1/4 note repeat. The TC Electronic Nova Delay is placed after the DD-3 in the signal path and is set to a reverse delay with added modualtion. The Line 6 DL4 comes next in the signal path and is set to 'Digital delay with modualtion' with very high repeats to add a layer of atmospheric drone under the other guitar parts.

I also use a Boss CE-5 Chorus pedal and Boss RV-5 Reverb pedal. The effects pedals and amplifiers are controlled via a Gig Rig Pro 14.

The Pro 14 is a floorbased switching system that allows unparalleled control of your amplifiers and stomp boxes. Check out http://www.thegigrig.com/ for more details on the Gig Rig Pro 14.

0.00 - 0.44: CE-5 + RV-5 only

0.45 - 1.10: Add DD-3 + Nova Delay

1.11 - 1.57: Add DL4

1.58 2.04: Add PH-3

2.04 - End: RV-5 only

The clip is from a song called 'Magnum Opus' by my band Vinyl Future. A rough recording of my band playing this song can be found using the following link:

  • Mr. McArthur, I must have watched this vid 1,000 times and checked every comment to find your CE-5 settings. I found your RV-5 and delay settings, but would you kindly disclose your chorus settings please? I feel like an arse... Thank you for re-igniting my desire to create. You are gifted and blessed.

  • Thanks, sorry missed this one hence the non reply. My chorus settings are always incredibly subtle I am generally not a massive fan of deep or fast chorus effects. So anything slow, shallow and low in the mix suits me. I currently use a TC Electronic Nova Modulator for chorus

  • Do you run the dl4 in the fx loop or in front? I've read it doesn't respond well to some amps fx loops

  • Usually in the fx loop. Depends more on the way the amps fx loop is wired i reckon. It sounds great through the front of my hiwatt for retro tube echos, but sounds poor through the front of my boogie

  • Does the gig rig allow you to cut off multiple effects at once? I noticed the phaser and the delays all cut off at once.

  • Yup it does indeed. Its an awesome piece of kit if you use numerous effects and are interested in maintaining your tone

  • I like that guitar, it has sentimental value. It was my first electric guitar. Its also had a load of modification, upgraed electronics, additional switches, Seymour Duncan pcikups etc so to my ear sounds great. My main guitar is a PRS Singlecut,I have a few modified Epiphones which I use for alternative tunings.I like them,I dislike the guitar snobbery that surrounds guitar equipment. I habve played many gibson, fenders etc that play like shit, the name is a good indicator but isnt everything

  • Your opinion should be ignored as you have a poor ear. You think there is wah wah on this video. Not being able to identify, probably the most recognisable guitar effect ever created doesnt strike me with confidence in your ear or opinion.

  • Is the DL-4 used as a looper, or as delay?

  • Bullshit.

  • I almost forgot, my brother has the same guitar, very good choice I think :) People grows, mind changes, again, sorrybro :)

  • huh, thanks dudes. I am not deaf, and I just don't listen to the end of song. The passage from 2:02 sounds good and I like a kind of that music, but what I would say was, that effects wont make music instead of you. Just practise clean and practise. You have talent I dont say opposite, but don't forget, less is sometimes more. I don't hate anyone or anything, people sometimes need to push :) Sry for my language =)

  • @craigmcarthur1 Hi. I'm looking forward to buy a nova modulator but it seems that there's nobody using it. What's your opinion on it? How good is the trichorus?

  • very nice

    good sound

    :-) like it

  • Thanks
