The Language Suite - Laotian - The work heard is entitled Las Paen. The word Paen is probably a mispronunciation of the Laotian Kaen or mouth organ which is the most important folk instrument in Laos. It is conjectured that after the Thais conquered the Laotian capital in the mid 19th century they brought back with them to Bangkok many prisoners. The central Thai musicians would have heard the Kaen for the first time. Once again it was Phra Pradit Pairoh who collected many of the Kaen phrases into a single suite-originally arranged as a solo for the Pi Nai [ oboe ]. The melody was so popular that soon solo arrangements for all the instruments in the Thai orchestra had to be invented. - Siamese Funeral Music performed by FONG NAAM , The Musicians : Boonyong Ketkhong : renat ek , Bruce Gaston : khong wong yai [ large gong circl ] , Prasarn Wongwirojruk : khong wong lek [ small gong circle ], Phin Ruangnon : glong kaek , glong song na , tapone ,Somcharn Bunkert : glongtat , glong kaek , Kaiwan Tilokavichai and Anant Narkong , percussion
