Norman Cocker's Tuba Tune played on the sampleset of the Skinner organ of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Chicago.

I had the opportunity to play this past weekend and here demonstrate how well Hauptwerk sounds.

I originally heard this on a recording from Liverpool cathedral where the Tuba Magna lives - one of the loudest organ stops in the world. The tuba is traditionally a high-pressure reed stop, designed to soar out over a full organ background. Truly thrilling in person!

  • Very nice. Is this the wet version of the sample set, or the dry version with added reverb?

  • @mikedc2020 This is the wet version. Thanks for the comment!

  • what is the approximate cost of the equipment you are using right here?

  • Including computer, software, and necessary hardware probably in the order of $2000-$3000

  • What a great piece. Never heard it before. Nice job! Bravo! What are you using for pedals? Dying to build my own virtual organ.

  • Thanks! Like most folks I'm using a pedal board which I've midi-ified. I'll upload a video of that process soon... watch this space!

  • could you please tell us how you built this at such a low cost. i will love to build mine too as soon as possible. Going to the church in the cold to rehearse is not really inspiring.

  • @md95065 I'm pretty sure it was written for the Tuba Magna that used to be on the screen at Manchester cathedral? possibly?

  • My favorite Tuba Tune of all, and so few people really know of it. You certainly play it beautifully. This is amazing equipment, too!

  • Granted I am hearing this in "youtube sound"...but this is really great! Far exceeding my expectations!

Rodgers & Allen should be frightened:)

  • I put "Norman Cocker Tuba Tune" into the search engine not expecting to hit anything worthwhile - but - wow - first of all the performance was excellent and second the kit you have used .. fantastic - this brings a Cathedral Organ into the living room - I assume that out of sight there was a 30 or 32 note RCO pedal board - please provide info regarding the gear/software used - regards - Bob from Chester UK
