Fair enough about Tamzin, except for the part where she harasses the Princess Mary. (Sarah Bolger is so sweet in The Tudors). Pleasence is actually an excellent actress (she is the daughter of the late Donald Pleasence, famous for, among other things, the doctor obsessed with hunting down Michael Myers in the Halloween flicks), but she simply was not suited for this role. I later found out, however, that the writer for the Catherine Howard episode from 1969 was an independent author

@spartacus3ful I liked Lynne Frederick too. She was incredibly sweet and childlike. But I don't agree that Tamzin Merchant played Katherine as cruel - just very spoiled and silly. I do agree with you about Ms Pleasence though - whoever wrote that script made her into a monster.

Neither Pleasence nor Merchant presented an accurate depiction of Catherine Howard. Pleasence was 29 years old when she played this part, nine years older than Catherine at the time of her death. Merchant was closer in age to the real Catherine, but both she and Pleasence were cast as cruel and conniving harpies, far from the actual queen who was sweet and naive, though morally lacking. The most accurate depiction of Catherine both in looks and demeanor was Lynne Frederick (1970).

I can't stand this actress ... In my eyes she is terrible.

@JessicaLouiseMusic Because when some one was executed, if they said something It had to be documented. And It's not people who were there who say she said it it's people from centuries later that said that she said it.

@bexie1992 how do you know that she didn't actually say it? if many people said she did who were there, i believe she did. Katheryne was always quite daring anyway (the affair with the kings own servant for example). i think it was katheryne's way of saying that she's still strong and doesn't care what henry says now, she loved culpeper and thats that.

@rees276 agreed :) Tamzin is and will always be the best actress as Katheryne Howard :)

@JessicaLouiseMusic That's one of those things that people said that she said over the years after it, but she didn't actually say it.
She is a little bit older than Catherine should be but overall I thought she was really good.

She isn't as good as Tamzin Merchant in the Tudors. She would have been stronger as one of the other wives. Great acting though.
