This is the ILS approach to Runway 26R in Atlanta, shot July of 2008. We were supposed to have arrived before sunset, but were delayed on the ground in Milwaukee by several hours due to thunderstorms in the ATL area. I was the First Officer (Pilot Not Flying) on this leg which meant I was working the radios and initiating the callouts you hear on the video. We had a company pilot in the jumpseat; I handed him my Canon ELPH and he shot this sweet video. The Captain (Pilot Flying) did a great job that night, too. His transition to the flare was so smooth you can hear the computer call out every increment from 50' to 5' above touchdown. This was a great plane to fly. It is a travesty that this airline is no longer in business.

  • mickithebush: I make the standard callout prompted by an indication on one of the displays that, should the flying pilot choose, the plane is now in the appropriate "flight condition" when reverse thrust could be applied (which rapidly slows the plane's rate of travel on the landing rollout). I don't believe the flying pilot in this video used reverse thrust. Our standard callout at Midwest for this was "reverse available," which is what you hear me saying. Thanks for your interest.

  • Looks like a nice airplane to fly. the flight deck reminds me a lot of the MD-11. What is your opinion of this airplane?

  • @PilotUTA: The airplane was sweet to fly. And the passengers loved the 2x2 seating (until Midwest got rid of it), as well.

  • Damn, that was one hell of a sweet landing, right on the center line! Great Job!

  • @NSFThunderbird: It was! The captain was great to fly with which makes for a pleasurable trip!

  • I love how your captain exited the high speed at 60 knots. Very cool indeed.

  • @JetChick717 Were you flying it? Love the sound of bitching betty the GPWS. Congrats on a fantastic landing

  • @flightsimmer1234 ahhh ok thanks . that really helped

  • @FirstFlight271 instrumental landing system...where autopilot lands it for you...all you have to do is manage speeds n flaps n gear n stuff like tht...but not altitude :)

  • Midwest isn't around anymore? They were the first airline I interviewed with in 1997 but they didn't hire me. I ended up at NWA a few months later but hated the cold MN winters so while the pilots were on strike in the summer of 98 I applied at AWA which is now USAir. Still there.

  • Enjoyed the passenger experience onboard a Qantas 717. Too bad Boeing no longer makes this great little airplane.

    Thanks for the video!

  • Can someone break down 2 me . what is ILS ? i always see it on my flight simulator x
