2010 Research!America Advocacy Awards Dinner Highlights

Each year the Research!America Advocacy Awards program recognizes individuals and organizations whose leadership efforts have been notably effective in advancing our nation's commitment to research.

A special musical performance by Chairman Obey and NIH Director Francis S. Collins, MD, PhD, was a highlight of the evening, in the spirit of the "Rock Stars of Science."

Awards and distinguished recipients (in order of appearance in the highlights video) from the 2010 program included:

- Edwin C. Whitehead Award for Medical Research Advocacy: The Honorable David R. Obey, U.S. Representative (D-Wisconsin)

- Builders of Science Award: Robert Mahley, MD, PhD

- Paul G. Rogers Distinguished Organization Advocacy Award: March of Dimes - Honorary Trustee, Anna Eleanor Roosevelt and Jennifer L. Howse, PhD accepted the award

- Gordon and Llura Gund Leadership Award: Robert Klein, JD, California

- Raymond and Beverly Sackler Award for Sustained National Leadership: Ann Lurie

- Isadore Rosenfeld Award for Impact on Public Opinion: G. Thompson Hutton, Esq., Trustee & CEO, Geoffrey Beene Foundation
