What Fourier magic is this?
-
Could this be used as a polyphonic guitar pitch to midi converter without the need for a hex pickup? If it actually works for that, a lot of people are going to be really interested. Looking forward to seeing more example vids.

@VirtualMark2 Because this video is a teaser that dates back to before the official announcement of PITCHMAP. We'll be posting new videos soon.

Monsieur Fourier was not involved for a change :-) We use a model of the human auditory system and interpretation models - basically artificial intelligence technology. Re: Guitar-to-MIDI: at this point: no. The AudioUnits spec doesn't allow sending MIDI from an effect, and as we're not only detecting pitches but also separating the notes, our process buffer is probably too long for nuanced guitar playing. But I'm a guitarist myself.

Too many differences to list here! Melodyne requires recording your audio into a buffer in the plug-in, from where you then play back after analysis, and where you edit your pitches by hand. PITCHMAP works fully real-time on your audio stream, so you have instant, hands-on control of the "mapping". Also, PITCHMAP supports using MIDI input to change pitches on-the-fly by *playing* the target scale. We'll be posting videos without the blurring soon that show the PITCHMAP workflow and its features.
