A true original to say the least, Marc Bolan (1947-1977) and his glam stage excesses paved the way for David Bowie, Roxy Music and what have you. But it was not only poise of course, Bolan was a rocker to the bone as can be seen in this excerpt of Ringo Starr's film Born to Boogie, a documentary showing a T.Rex concert at Wembley Empire Pool on 18 March 1972 where Marc is taking Get It On, his No1 mega-hit to the cleaners a la Hendrix, enjoy.

I agree - their albums were COMPLETELY different from their rowdy and energetic live shows, which rocked as hard as Zeppelin and Sabbath.

You know I was about 15 when this and others.. like Slade and Sweet were about. I was into Rock, and these guys were thought of as pop bands... a bit like the boybands/ girl bands of today, but unlike the manufactured bands of now, these guys not only looked good and could make a 'pop' record.... they could play and they could KICK ASS... long live the 70's.
