Yes it is a shame. But as the operators said the cost of building a replica steam loco was so astronomical this unique restored railway exhibit wouldn't exist at all (that's at all at all in Irish!!!)
With CIE in your handle you must be Irish but I believe Lartigue was a frenchman so it's not an Irish joke really. Thanks for the comment - I saw CIE in the 60's - not a pretty sight. At least this one at Listowel is new and bright and shiny.
Agreed in this day and age. It was useless in service in Ireland too but Lartigue built the first one in the North African desert where it was immune from track spread and the stock was up above the sand. It did work there I am told.
