  • @BlowdownBob Thats what i was wondering because exhaust brakes dont hold your speed for you. The revs keep increasing and you have to use the brakes heaps.

  • @123flaw yeah, not really. the jake will slow you up and save your brakes a little but at the end of the day it really is just for holding speed down hill, thats what i believe anyway. a jake wont stop you unless you have pleeeeenty of space

  • @BlowdownBob @stvna8040 @MrAussietruckie I have realised that its the difference between an exhaust brake and jake brake or engine brake that had me confused. I havent driven a truck with jakes yet but i think they pull you up alot more.

  • @123flaw only if you have the wrong gear for the weight and speed you want to be doing down the hill. for long decents like into Adelaide you are restricted now to 60km/h unless 40 applies what ever that means, dad and i used to bring our truck down at 70 in 10th with the jake on full slight touch on the brakes would pull us up alright, but we're just carrying bread :D

  • @2010peterbuilt379

why is that? Toowoomba is shorter but steeper or is it because Toowoomba has 4 lanes and the Gap has only 3?

love the jake by the way

I would really love to hear a good 903 on jakes down here as well

  • Toowoomba ranges is for girls, go down The gap

  • @m648mvp oh, thanks

  • @123flaw you can run down a hill without touching your brakes

  • @stvna8040

So if you just left it in a gear with exhaust brake without using the brake at all does this over rev the engine?

  • @123flaw you try not to use the brakes otherwise you risk burning them out puttin you in a dangerous situation. if he had to slow down more he'd just do quick firm pushes of the brake pedal
