well I used to wake the mornin
befor the rooster crowed
searchin for soda bottles to get myself some dough
brought 'em down to the corner
down to the country store
cash 'em in and give my money to a man named Curtis Lowe
old Curt was a black man with white curly hair
when he had a fifth of wine he did not have a care
he used to own an old dobro used to play across his knee
I'd give old Curt my money he play all day for me

(chours)
play me a song Curtis Lowe, Curtis Lowe
well I got your drinkin' money tune up your dobro
people said he was useless them people all were fools
'cause Curtis Lowe was the finest picker to ever play the blues

well he looked to be 60, maybe I was 10
momma used to whoop me
but I'd go see him again
I'd clap my hands, stomp my feet tryin to stay in time
well he'd play me a song or two then take another drink of wine

(chours)
play me a song Curtis Lowe, Curtis Lowe
well I got your drinkin money tune up your dobro
people said he was useless but them people all were fools
'cause Curtis Lowe was the finest picker to ever play the blues

on the day old Curtis died nobody came to pray
old preacher said some words
and they chucked him in the clay
well he lived a lifetime playin' the black man's blues
and on the day he lost his life that's all he had to lose

(chours)
play me a song Curtis Lowe, yeah Curtis Lowe
I wish that you was here so everyone would know
people said you was useless but them people all were fools
cuz Curtis your the finest picker to ever play the blues

  • Man... My daddy told me this is the first song I ever heard, He said the night we were coming out of the hospital this song was on the radio. So I asked him when I was 10, "Did god play that song so I had good taste in music?" He jus laughed. I'm 14 now, I listen to every kind of music there is, You have to appreciate it for what it is. But if People dont like this. They can Kiss my country ass, Skynyrd's in my musical blood.

  • One of Skynyrd's best. You just know what Loew looks like when he describes him.

  • @DIXIECONFEDERATEDAWG thanks man but...just calm down turn off the caps lock

  • @Pedro370100

I WOULD THINK IT WAS LOWE.... BUT THEY MISPELLED IT ON PURPOSE THE SAME WAY THEY DID "LYNYRD SKYNYRD" WHO WAS A TEACHER IN JACKSONVILLE....

    TAKE CARE

  • GOD BLESS CURTIS LOWE......

  • Now this is what I call REAL music. You know music where the musician had to actually pick up an instrument instead of all this new computer generated bull crap music. I know this and i'm only 20!

Sorry for the double post but i had to point out, this song shows how as a young man he did not see a black man, he saw Curtis Lowe. He saw the MAN, not the race.

He heard music and saw a caring man who was not cared for and enjoyed his company whether or not it was frowned on at the time.

Your generation needs to figure out how to properly spell the language we all speak. Let me show you.

"Hey, i am 15 and i feel the same way. I do not think i could ever get into this generations music."

Its a beautiful song and with some perspective, one day you might get it.

Its as if newer generations do not care about the content of lyrics, only the beat. His lyrics are touching on a human level.

  • @ThePixonater hay im 15 and i fell the same way. I dont think i could ever get in this generations music.

  • is it loew or lowe btw nice song
