Let's make another Lego house!

This one may have pushed the limits of my computer's memory (as well as my patience) with 1174 pieces (according to Lego)!

You may see a few pieces disappear now and then but the whole model is too big for me to be able to debug it.

I've seen different pieces disappear randomly. If I tweak the timing a bit it can fix those pieces but then other pieces will hide. This session turned out to have the fewest problems so I'll stick with it; These 2000 frames took about a month of rendering, so I'm not going to try again.

Oh, look, Lego has a new Creator set, a beach house!

p.s. See my Blogspot site for details about how I move all the pieces into place:

  • I just have a question that may sound stupid & n00bish.

Old Lego playsets were made with only three walls, the front (usually) & two side walls. There usually was no back wall so as you can play with them like a doll house. I mean, with an enclosed house like that how will you put the Lego people in it?

  • Good question.

Many of these 'Creator' line houses have large tiled (no "studs") sections on top so that the roof can be easily removed and you can get inside.

But there isn't much going on inside to play with anyway. I think the main focus in its design was to make the outside look great and to be fun to build.

  • Obviously not live action, but the renderer used for this animation is so good I can hardly see the difference.

Still, I'm a bit bummed on not being able to find an actual house made of legos, and not just a "Lego house", if you catch my drift.

  • Just a couple of weeks ago a guy built a full-sized house out of 3 million Lego bricks.

It was demolished when nobody would pay to preserve it.
