As long as the car looks nice, has the bells and whistles, the quick/ powerful engine, their hope is most people will not even research a make/ model's reliability history to confirm its reliability excellence. But Renault used Nissan's reputation to fool people into believing that their newer cars, while more attractive, were just as good if not better in the reliability dept, as their predecessors. @rev7verse9 unfortunately, "Car of the Year" does not take into account, longevity, breakdowns, reliability, and repairs. If u want the best of the bes with regards reliability, stick with Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Scion, Lexus, and Acura. Nissan's, like Renault's, are designed to fall apart after the bumper-to- bumper warranty. Like Nissan's VP of Product Marketing said, they don't want to "over-engineer" their cars. Their banking that people r stupid enough to trade in their junk for newer
If consumer's lid just be more deligint and not reward Nissan by buying their lower quality cars, Nissan would be forced to improve. It amazes me how companies like Renault, can fool the public over and over again, by drawing them in to buy their cars DESPITE THEIR WELL KNOWN ISSUES IN THE RELIABILITY DEPT. Stop it people, speak with ur dollars! If ur gonna spen $20,000+ on a car make sure it's got a proven track record of lasting 20+ years of durability, and reliability. It helps resale va
Renault has the WORST reliability in the industry. The left the US market because of reliability issues being realized by consumers. Now they're back but this time under the Nissan' brand. They have brought down Nissan's reliability as a whole. Nissan's no longer hold up like they use to. They''re junk after 4 years and so e are junk from the beginning. U can thank Renault for that. Stick with Toyota and Honda.
Renault KILLED Nissan. Nissan does not produce solid quality vehicles anymore, like they used to do (what a wonderful heritage they left with the old Pickup D21, Patrol, Teranno I & II). Their cars now are made just by Renault Recipe: Cheap car, cheap materials, shabby quality, HUGE prices for spare part and maintenance.
It seems to me that the French came, took advantage of Nissan reputation, in exchange letting them to tinkle freely on their GT-R. That's it. Nissan in my opinion is DEAD. RIP

@leepakim
Let's not exaggerate.
The Nissan 370z is a pretty decent car for example.
And there are some Renault models that aren't bad either.
