A little too late to straighten things up.

*Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou apologized again today for the slow response to Typhoon Morakot and said he plans sweeping changes to the country's rescue agencies and may punish some government officials. As of August 11, official figures on known damage caused by the typhoon were 127 deaths, 307 missing and 45 injured, as well as economic losses of about $37.1 million. As many as 600 people may have died in the island's most serious natural calamity for 200 years, according to Taiwan media. The Taiwanese public has criticized the government for imprecise forecasts of the strength of the typhoon and the areas it would hit. They also complained of long delays in rescue efforts and uncaring attitudes toward victims in the immediate aftermath of the storm. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs initially instructed Taiwan's embassies to refuse offers of foreign aid. Though it is a little late, trying to repair its image a foreign minister official said that the government asked major world donors for equipment, which were initially refused before. The ministry has approached Japan, the United States and European countries for supplies such as large helicopters and mobile homes.

where did you get that statistic from? Guess you just made it up. Highly ironic you accused others of not understanding when the vast majority of Chinese have never and will never go to Taiwan or meet a Taiwanese person. You would have a far greater chance of meeting a Taiwanese person in an English speaking western university than the vast majoirity of Chines universities Anyway thanks to media censorship in the P.R.C most Chinese know only a fabricated falsity of Taiwan

  • @wrxmag i think u underestimate china a bit

  • @lordawesome46 i am chinese, and proud of it, but i respect taiwan too (republic of china) mainland is (people's republic of china)

  • I wonder how would this all change with a re militarized Japan.
