Pilot, with their hit single Penny In My Pocket. A fabulous song from the UK band Pilot featuring the fluid guitar of Ian Bairnson, and the stellar vocals (way up high in the Graham Nash range!) by David Paton - From The Arrows Show, Pilot are introduced by Terry Taylor and Alan Merrll of the Arrows. Stuart Elliot, Pilot's drummer is AWOL on the clip (anyone know who it is filling in for him?) but the late great Billy Lyall is present on keyboards in white shorts!

  • Actually whats that song at the very beginning called, The arrows - ?

  • That's "Bring back the fire" from The Arrows "A's B's and Rarities" album. They were the hosts of this weekly TV series.

Arrows singer Alan Merrill and guitarist Terry Taylor (now of Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings band) introduce Pilot in this 1976 clip.

  • The song is even longer with more lead-work by Ian, on the cd. Amazing! What a guitarplayer he was.

  • A beautiful song. Brings back the memories of the mid-70's.

  • Fantastic group, feel good music, a tonic from the good times, tanks pilot !

  • love it, one of the best Pilot tunes from their best album

  • @nigelo92 Great information. Thanks for that!

  • anybody have any more PILOT videos... if so please share... they are terrific to see!

  • What a great player he was? You mean, is!

And plays equally great! If not better! Like a fine wine IMHO.

  • @SuperTiddy

I can confirm that with a quote from David Paton himself.

    "Hi Nigel

Steve Swindells and Peter Oxendale on keyboards with Allan Pratt on drums.

Steve was a friend of Billy and Allan played in many bands in and around Edinburgh in the late 60s and early 70s.

Good question, and I had to get the old brain cells in gear for that one.

    Cheers

    David"

  • The guy with the tennis kit is Peter Oxendale. He played keyboards on the Morin Heights album as Billy had left the band by that time.

Does anybody have the live Pilot video from the Wimbledon theatre? He was on that too.

  • Wonderful to see this, full version~!
