VIZCONDE MASSACRE:
20 YEARS, TWO FACES OF JUSTICE
Report by Maki Pulido
It is one of the most controversial cases in the country's history, the most shocking crime in the 90s -- the Vizconde Massacre.
The public and the media continue to watch as the years go by - from the discovery of the crime scene, arrest of the suspects, filing of the case and its lengthy judicial process leading to the dismissal of charges against the accused and their freedom.
Last week, the Department of Justice presented the results of its reinvestigation, which include six new witnesses and evidences that would prove that the primary accused, Hubert Webb, never left the country when the crime happened. But the principle of double jeopardy makes it impossible for Hubert and the group to be implicated again in the case.
Some say that the Vizconde Massacre case reflects the justice system of the country. However, after 20 years, there are still more questions than answers. Will the truth ever be told? Will justice still prevail?
