Because of the portrayal of the Indian plantation owner. For that reason there were complaints about it when it first aired. The ITC (Independent Television Commission, now defunct) ruled that it used outdated comic stereotypes a la "It Ain't Half Hot Mum" but most viewers would realize it was supposed to be over the top and not deliberately racist.
