  • The writing for this show went to the crapper a few episodes before the end of Tom Baker's exit.. which I believe is the very reason for his exit. If you notice the writing suddenly changes, K-9 gets abused left and right and Romana becomes written as basically an imbecile before being written out. Colin Bakers problems being seen as a good Doctor stem from the continuation of the bad plot devices.

  • @thenson1Halo - Exactly; it'd be great to see Colin Baker working with scripts like "Inferno" or "Seeds of Doom"... :)

  • Hmm... seems I was wrong about Colin. I was always thought he was a bit weird, mostly because his clothes aren't the best. I'll have to watch more of his episodes... and more of the classic series in general!

  • @tsjmcgrath - Always make time for some classic-'who' !!

  • Such a great Doctor. Don't know why so many people hate him.

  • @SimonTalksWHO - He's a really excellent guy and really very good indeed as 'The Doctor'. His character is very colourful and ebullient and maybe that rubs some people up the wrong way... :( Who knows... ;)

  • Good clips selection, love the ending especially. It's just too bad there are only 2 stories of his left to be released on DVD, I wish he'd done more.

  • Without doubt the greatest characterisation of the Doctor of any era. Baker had everything, an emotional rollercoaster of a man, distinctly alien & unstable @ times, he became totally dependable when necessary, a multicoloured knight in shining armour. A wonderful chance to develop the Doctors character went begging back in the 80's, and what's more, Baker adored the series & I'd give him the role back tomorrow if I could.

  • @ChrisHoyle It's pain. You hear laughter, but that's one of the bad guys, Sil, laughing off-camera. Sil has a very distinctive (creepy) laugh.

  • @Aspergianstar2OO9 - You're right - the BBC really weren't behind the show by the time Colin took up the title-role. They were shunting it about in the schedules, getting any old tat in as story-lines, chopping it down to less episodes per year, again... then (which is absolutely risible) decided Colin should go and asked JNT to stay when Colin wanted to remain in the role and JNT had been wanting out for years, by that point....

  • @SimonTalksWHO - Being the face of the show and the leading man, Colin Baker sadly carried the can for the shoddy way the series was handled in the '80s. Whereas in the '70s you generally got good stories with the occasional clunker, by the time Colin Baker took the helm of the TARDIS the reverse could be said....

  • this guy is MY doctor
