  • Thank you tomgadd so much for posting! What a gem! Btw - Are you somehow related to the Gadd family?

  • no, i'm not related to gadd family. i'm simply

collecting over the years gadd-stuff. i think he's the biggest influence in contemporary drumming the last 30 years.

vinnie colaiuta transported again drumming to another level. what he's playing is simply astonishing( jeff beck at ronnie scott's for example). although sometimes i think he's overplaying...

    nevertheless two really greats....

  • Is this concert out on dvd?? Please say yes ;)

  • sadly not. but i have do have a 90min version from japan TV.

  • Gadd is ok but he's no Ringo : )

  • @tomgadd

I agree that Gadd is one of the pioneers. Lots of narrative in his playing and he really brought rhythmic inversions to the forefront.

  • So, there are 101 thumbs up (hope it counted mine) and 1 thumbs down for this vid. The person that gave it a thumbs down... can't they (before clicking the thumbs down) sit back and ask their self, "Why can't I hear the excellence that everyone else hears"?

  • anyone else notice that he squeezes out a few little farts at 4:03 ?

  • @jpb318 I noticed too!!

  • See more on Steve Gadd on SoulDrummers . com.

  • Wow! Gadd playing a flat ride! I'd not seen that before...

  • if there was one mistake in that entire piece, I couldn't find it. Within the structure of that song is so much improvising but it is so damn tight that you would never know it.

For example, coming out of Steve Gadd's drum solo, the cue was so damn hidden that one has to ask, how did they know to go into that intricate figure together at exactly the same time. Masters every single one.

  • I know it is not wise to necessarily compare drummers, but for instance, I LOVE Bozzio for what he does, but it seems he is always so in search of the MUSICALITY behind the drums, tuning his drums to notes, building these massive SICK kits in order to have all those "notes" at his disposable...but...Gadd is a musical genius with just that 6 piece kit you're looking at....
