@shutterbugblues brian wrote this song. mike love had nothing to do with it. the greatest thing about this song is the flat major chord (EbMajor) and how brian resolves it.

Fantastic song, one of the Beach Boys' best musically and lyrically. Brian and Mike were the George and Ira Gershwin of the 60's on this song.

I don't think I have heard a more beautiful song than this. No matter how many times I listen to it, it brings tears to my eyes. Can't explain that, but perhaps that's a reflection of how music can touch our emotions.

Yeah, this is one that always makes me cry, too.....and a few of their other ones.

It's the policeman of course. Genuine ignorance although sad is understandable, unlike the grandstanding arrogance of a know it all seeking self confidence at the expense of others.

This is the absolutely best song the Beach Boys ever recorded. Pure a capella. It captured the outstanding vocal harmonies that this group made, which will never be equalled. Poignant, powerful, emotional lyrics. "I don't feel the same way....." Beautiful.
