How to Downgrade iPhone Firmware 4.1 on 3GS and iPhone 4

Steps how to downgrade previously jailbroken iPhone 3GS/iPhone 4 from iOS 4.1 and 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 or 4.0. firmware on a Windows PC and how to recover from (1011, 1013 or 1015) error(s) (aka stuck in recovery mode).

**UPDATE!** 8/31/2010 For those wanting to know if you can get a New out of the box iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 downgraded out of the box see the link below.

SHSH blobs MUST be saved to Cydia to do this on Newer iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 devices.

You will want to use Tiny Umbrella or RecBoot to kick your iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 out of recovery mode. I recommend Tiny Umbrella for it's easy of use and because it allows you to save your SHSH blobs on cydia.

I must say out of all the iPhone video's you are top notch. I have a question if you could answer. I have the VZW iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.7. I have the latest I tunes available it is 10.2.2.12. My question is , with the new patch apple is coming out with because of the tracking issue should I stay with this iOS version and wait for a jailbreak on that version or would it not make a difference to downgrade and jailbreak? I do appreciate your feedback and will subscribe. Thanks for the help making

@Schonward01 The new OS will have a few tweaks the main fix dealing with the tracking issue. However nothing significant. Our suggestion would be to stay on your current iOS. If your concern is GPS tracking and your device is jailbroken, just go into cydia and install untrackerd this will fix the GPS issue. It should not be long for the DEV team to jailbreak iOS 4.3.3. You recall 4.2.1 did not take too long to jailbreak then 2 weeks later iOS 4.3.2 came out and within 24 hours it was jailbroken.

(cont...) the operator gave me another new iPhone 4 but when I connected it to iTunes to get it updated to 4.2.1 it just got stucked in recovery mode again, even without jailbreaking it... everytime I try to restore it using de iTunes, it appears a error message 1013 and I have seen once the 2000 (or 20000, I don't remember) so Rey... what can I do to fix it? could you please help me? it's so frustrating to get my new iPhone 4 and cannot use it... thank you so much...

@pedrohmoniz9 first question...Are you using iTunes 10.0 or did you have to update to 10.1 because your device is now running 4.2.1? Have you updated your device via DFU mode and NOT restored from a backup file stored in iTunes? HAve you downloaded and installed the latest version of Tiny Umbrella to try and kick the device out of recovery mode.

@snakebite429 while in Cydia on your device you see "4.2b3" your SHSH blobs are saved in cydia.

I have an AT&T 3Gs that a friend of mine unlocked and put on T-Mobile for me. He updated to 4.1 and I'm having battery and data issues. Data is always running. Been using like 2 Gigs a month! Will downgrading to 4.0 or lower cure this? I don't know what the original version was. Cydia is installed and I think he used the ultrasnow.

Thanks for your input my iPhone 4 is now on version 4.2.8 and I am loving the freedom of Cydia and it's apps. One question I wondered if u or anyone can answer. My phone had a strange red light on the front beside the earphone next to the camera. It was on and the phone was very slow and not responsive. I turned it off and back on no more light. Never seen it before and it was dark in my room. I was trying to install a cracked app if that helps. Thanks for any info.
