Some animated shorts made in 2002. They were made in Creatoon, a 2D digital cut-out program. Deadline was sharp - one new short each day!

  • VERY nice examples of classic cut-out style animation. The scene with the painter clearly demonstrates the value of being able to 'pin' limbs at their 'joints'. Creatoon obviously has this option whereas the program I've been using for a year (Artoonix) doesn't - and it's a right royal nightmare to get anything as smooth as your results ...... which is why I'm switching to either Creatoon or Anime Studio.

How quickly did you learn to use Creatoon? After all, documentation IS rather sparse.

  • It probably took a month or so to get comfortable with the program. I haven't used it in many years though. I now use Anime Studio, which is better for deformation and more complex character rigs, but also more complex and unwieldy compared to the easygoing style you get from creatoon.

  • That's my impression as well. It's the 'easy going style' of Creatoon that appeals, so I'll probably give it a much fairer try than I did before, especially after having failed to find a way to get Artoonix to do what I want. And I've always for Anime Studio Pro in reserve.

I forgot to ask last time - which software did you use for 'He's OK, she's OK'? It looks like Creatoon again, but there's no mention in your info notes.

  • Yes, that was also done in Creatoon, with the compositing in After Effects.

  • Is all the artwork done in Creatoon as well? Or did you use an outside program such as inkscape? ...or did you scan in your own drawings?

  • Hand drawn on paper, water colours, scanned and cut in photoshop - animated in creatoon.

  • love your style and the whole design of your work! Did you paint your backgrounds in ceatoon too?

  • lol this is stupid in a good way.... its stupid funny, yea that explains what im saying.

  • I'd like to get into doing this. I have training in hand-drawn cell animation and graphic design. What is the learning curve on these programs?

  • The creatoon manal is very broad and doesn't explain very well on how to use the various camera nodes.. just a vague description. I see you have it down to a science... or had.. since this is old stuff.

  • lol love the picasso

  • Thanks for the info. It's very useful seeing what somebody else does with a particular program.
