Planned obsolescence affects us all in our every day lives. Especially the poor people of the world who are unable to keep up with trying to replace necessities like cookers and fridges because certain people in this world make designers shorten product life by design. More greed without caring at all for the earth's resources, nature, animals or people, while the hypocritical Government's of the world dare speak of the environment.
I had planned obsolescence affect me a few weeks back when my computer screen broke and i was told at the computer shop "they don't mend them anymore, it isn't worth their while". I pictured my screen yet another one littering this earth as in this film and it made me sad.
I personally can not stand wastage and piles of rubbish dumped as in this film when it should be mended or recycled.
Talking of light bulbs mine only last a couple of weeks most of the time now, a lot less than the 100 years here!
The EU has forced us in Britain to change our light bulbs from the incandescent filament to the new fluorescent lamps (CFLs).
They are many times more expensive and do NOT last any where near the length of time that they suggest, in my experience. Also these new bulbs have mercury in them.

Beside the point....but i worked making light bulbs in one of my jobs until they made me redundant as the company was closing it's British firms. It sure was hot in summer with those flames.
I certainly didn't know about the 100 year old light bulb then : )

@jcurnes
Hello : )
How old is it?
On one of the news sites that i visit i love to see the odd article of an old appliance that is still going. Recently one was about an old fridge over 50 years old and a very old TV, and i always think of this documentary.
