In a nutshell, JPEG is a compressed image file. Its used in most consumer cameras. Its makes the files smaller. RAW is uncompressed. They are like film negatives, and the files are much larger. You need an image editor like Lightroom, Aperture, or Adobe Camera RAW to edit RAW files.
