BROCKTON — A 22-year-old man was killed and three others seriously injured in a fiery multi-car crash authorities believe was touched off by drag racers on Torrey Street Tuesday night.
Richard Falzone, 22, of Easton was killed when he struck a car driven by a priest, lost control of his speeding Nissan 300ZX then slammed into a second vehicle.
Authorities said Falzone struck the second car with two Easton women inside nearly head-on then flipped over. The Easton women were driving in the opposite direction — toward their hometown in a Kia sedan — when they were struck.
The two Easton women were identified as Shaleeya Rankins, 24, and Aimee Oljey, 23. The two were first taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center then taken to Boston hospitals, police said.
After the women were struck, another car struck them head-on, police said.
That Chevrolet 2000 Monte Carlo was driven by Thomas Burke, 20, of Brockton. Authorities said, based on a preliminary investigation, it appears the car driven by Burke was also speeding at the time of the crash and may have been racing with Falzone.
The priest, Thomas Gariepy, 61, of the Congregation of Holy Cross at Stonehill College did not appear injured, police said.
Investigators were reviewing witness accounts and evidence from the scene to see what charges would be lodged in the case.
As of this morning, no charges had been officially lodged. An estimate on how fast the young men were driving was not immediately available and is part of the ongoing investigation.
