Jian, the capital city of Shangdong province in the northeastern part of China, owns four trolleybus routes serving along some major avenues in the city centre.

The city used to have Shanghai-made articulated trolleybuses as the backbone of trolleybus fleet. They have since been scrapped and replaced by more modern rigid ones since mid 90s. The rigid trolleybuses you see in this video are all locally made in Jinan. Their chassises were supplied by Jinan Heavy-Duty Vehicles Plant, and I suppose they must be quite robust and durable. There hasn't been any plans to expand the current system yet. But the trolley fans in the city are optimistic that the trolleybus won't be phased out any time soon, after witnessing a fleet renewal taking place just a few months back.

The chinese words shown during the opening and ending of the music video says "A Better Tomorrow - This music video is dedicated to all trolleybus fans in China". Enjoy!

  • What a memory. I used to get off at that bus stop everyday when I was in High School. Though there's pollution, or like some of you said it's not really fully developed, it's my home. Love JINAN, Love my home. The people there are the warmest I've ever seen.

  • You still remember those electric trolleys? If you are in Melbourne you guys get to ride electric trams instead.

  • Yes, I've been to Melbourne seen the tram. and I've been in Sydney for two years, there is the electric tram too. I am in Adelaide now, you know what, we have tram here as well.

  • Wish Singapore also has a tramway system.... but i don't think it will happen anytime soon....

  • Very interesting. What is this song please?

  • Frumos, interesant si... romantic!

  • yep, china is changing very rapidly. The video could be outdated soon. I am sure there are much newer model of buses in china now.

  • The weather's actually pretty good in Jinan atm.

Anyhow Is this video made when trolleybuses were first introduced? Blimey it's years ago, not to mention trolleybuses, the whole commuter bus system in Jinan has over 130 lines, videos needs some updating, or folks from the west would still think of China like 20 years back :D

  • Great video. Nice song. Interesting troleybuses system.

  • i've been to jinan, too. it's a twin town of my german city, where i live. i have an exchange partner in jinan, and a very good friend from jinan, but he works in singapore now. you may contact him, hiss account on youtube is avatarsunqiang i think. watch my friendlist to find him, hehe

jinan is my favourite city all over the world, but the air is really .... sad.

  • i haven just came back from Jinan (=

    anyway , they r there still .

what i miss is my friend n my child hood.

anyway any Jinan ppl here in Singapore ?

  • the time is in the past. now the air is so bad, that i am skeptic if people can live there any more.

I really like the video, the old time in jinan: not so many autos, people just work and walk in the street....

hope the air can be besser again

  • I love Jinan my hometown, like every Jinanese in Melbourne, trolleybuses make me homesick. Regarding this video, the film make may collect some extra footage of the Jinan's old trolleybuses, then make a documentary shows the transition/evolvement of our hometown from a particular angle. as far as I know, the buses on this video probably are the 4th generation of trolleybus in Jinan. The last style was the one with two sections which was soooooo noisy inside.

  • I can not see future for the trolleybus in Shanghai though it has the longest history of commercial trolleybus services in China.
