Senbatsu election/Sousenkyo - The time of the year when AKB held an election to pick the top 21 girls to promote their senbatsu single to the general public, the 22-40 ranking are called Undergirls, who promote the coupling song that go along with the senbatsu single, while the other girls hold down the theater.
Fans can vote by joining fanclub or through digital voting but the most common voting method is with a ticket included in AKB's single. This year the amount of votes were 4 times that of last year, out of 1,587,000 sales of Everyday Kachuusha (which included the voting ticket), around 1.2-1.3 voted were counted.

This senbatsu determined the ranking of the senbatsu song of 2011, Flying Get, a song that finally won AKB a Japan Record Award after 6 yrs of hardwork, doubts, and being ridiculed.




I decided to post this here to help spread the AKB love. Senbatsu is always an emotional time. Personally I find it cruel sometimes since some girls worked so hard but don't get the ranking then need. But then when I see the faces of the girls I voted for crying, happy, and thanking their fans, it make you feel like you're one of the person that help

even if i'm team yuko and wanted her to win....acchan actually said "hate me but plz don't hate akb" in a middle of the big nippon budokan stage infront of thousands of people. the chick is willing to be hated as long as people will like AKB as a whole so i think she really do deserve to be first. acchan got too much hate but for her to shoulder AKB despite being a quiet and reserve person really is something imo.

@magnaesoojung Gee yeah you're right, winning something like this isn't an emotional event at all. And her speech definitely doesn't indicate she's been struggling to cope with the pressure of being the face of AKB at all, does it.
