Howard Zinn passed away suddenly at the age of 87 yesterday.

He was an inspiration to many. His passing is a great tragedy for all peace loving people in the world.

I had the good fortune to know him personally in his last few years, he was always encouraging and kind and helpful. I will miss him deeply.

"I am supposing, or perhaps only hoping, that our future may be found in the past fugitive moments of compassion, rather than the solid centuries of warfare. " --Howard Zinn

  • Don't mourn, organize!

  • @porkchopexpress07

I understand the sentiment, but can we both mourn AND organize? He was such a complete human being that it would bother me if people didn't mourn his passing.

  • Fucking tragedy.

  • Rest in PEACE Howard, your voice will live on. For your reference, surf out his November 'Holy War' speech in Boston and his Democracy Now special about a year ago, easy to find an the D'Now web site.

  • Howard Zinn, one of the greatest American in this modern time. Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, Amy Goodman etc...... are the voices that awake consciousness of class conflict, racial injustice, national arrogance........ same as H. Zinn did it most of his lifetime.

  • We need to be moving forward as a society instead of clinging to ancient documents.

  • Since you're Canadian like me, I'm sure you can agree that American history taught in America is probably different than that taught in Canada (if you've taken history at university).

Constitutionalists are just like fundamentalist Christians, Jews, etc, they're both annoying and crazy.

The Founding Fathers were great in their time, but I wouldn't have them as my role models.

I admire Abraham Lincoln, he was a man of his time, but even him I wouldn't have as a role model (he was racist).

  • shhhhhhhh they dont want us to know this

  • Ya man democracy now is the best news program in the states

  • Excellent tribute. This is why Democracy Now! is one of my favorite programs. They gave Howard Zinn a proper tribute as opposed to MSM, who treated his passing like a trivial news blurb.

  • This is getting Simpsonian.

  • Good clarification. Don't see why not. Mourn and organize! Let's just not let our mourning paralyze us from organizing I mean. :)

  • This is so sad......he will be severely missed. Loved this man, dearly.

  • ~without intention to so.
