  • I was there at the press site, but I didn't get footage as great as this. Thanks so much for posting.

  • It was on Thursday, 11/11/82 - Veteran's Day.

  • I saw this from Jetty Park when I was 18 or so.

  • That is so cool. I wish they still had that shot.

  • This is great, would be nice to see some of the other replays from STS-4 or 6 posted also. For those of you who haven't ordered the shuttlesource DVDs of thee early missions (STS-2, 3, 4 and STS-5 and 6)yet..I did and I highly recommend them, especially for such a nominal price!

  • Yep. You're right. The T-38 Talon. I saw so many of those. I don't know how I forgot that.

I watched the landing from this mission and the T-38s were on each side. How cool would it be to be the person filming that?!

  • I don't know for certain. I do know they use T-38 chase jets for the astronauts to do practice runs in and to escort the shuttle when it is landing at the end of a mission.

They used WB-57's in 2005 and 2006 for rapid close up coverage during severel launches. That is probably online somewhere too if you want to look it up.

  • Amazing. It seems so steady. I was wondering about a hot air balloon. Not really. But it seems like the angle isn't changing but I guess it's all perspective. If I'm not mistaken, that would be a T-34. They move pretty fast. Weird but very cool.

  • Having seen the same camera replay on 2 other launches I can now confirm you were right, it is from a NASA chase plane, not a helicopter.

  • Seems really high but I guess the perspective makes it seem so.
