2010 Chevrolet Malibu Vs. Semi Trailer Underride Test (Test By IIHS)

This is how a car looks after a 35 mph full-width crash into the rear of a Hyundai trailer with a weak underride guard.
This is part of a series of tests performed by IIHS as an initiative towards safer underride guards.
A Hyundai trailer whose underride guard bent forward, sheared its attachment bolts, and broke after the Malibu hit it in the center rear at 35 mph. This was the weakest guard tested. The trailer was manufactured by Hyundai Translead.

I'd be more concerned with how the FRONT bumpers of a semi are. If you rearend a semi, it's very likely your own fault. You usually have control over that. If the front of the semi hits you, it's of greater probability that it's the semi driver's fault and not of your own doing.
