In this video, I read the names of the different American states in a natural American accent. I am not a linguist, I know that I talk to fast and that I am bad at breaking down words, but hopefully this helps somehow.

Keep it up!

  • you don't have to put 3 syllables in "Maine" that made me giggle.

  • It sounds kind of goofy that way, I agree. But i talso sounds wrong to only have two. Ma-i-ne is kind of what I was aiming for. But you just pronounce it like how you pronounce the word "main", so if you can do that, congratulations, you've mastered the name of a state!

  • you said you were from the west? which state? you said states like "california" strangely- you emphasized the "ca-LEE-for-nia" more than I've heard it emphasized before (I say "cal-IH-for-nia)... but I'm from Ohio, which is mid-west (ish) and I'm not sure which state you're from-- that was an interesting difference

  • I'm from Washington state. You are not alone in how you say it. You definitely hear both versions around here, depending on who you talk to.
