You can count the number of times they've featured breastfeeding on one hand, and that's spaced out over 43 years on the air.

From my experience kids accept the answer and move on and its not a big deal. "Mommy what is she doing to the baby" "She's feeding her dear." "But she doesn't have a bottle" "She doesn't need a bottle, mommies make milk to feed their babies. Some mommies use bottles and some mommies use their own milk." "Oh, ok" kid goes to play. I have nursed 4 kids and have had numerous kids inquire about what I was doing. No kid was traumatized or bothered by the answer. It's the parents with the problem.

If Sesame Street showed hundreds of babies on the bottle, would you have thought to ask why?

Kids should know about breastfeeding. We live in a country where there is a stigma attached to nursing in public but it is okay for a woman to walk around barely covered in how she dresses or sex all over television. They need to learn young that breasts are not predominatly sexual. this is their God given purpose. Power to nursing mamas!!! Nursing in Public-Big Bird Approved!! <3 <3 <3

Well I'm glad it was never censored, but I couldn't really see the baby feeding on the milk of Buffy's breast. I wonder what would happen if little kids learned about this breastfeeding. That would be a controversy parents would complain about. Wouldn't you YT users agree?

Why in heck do people today make such an issue out of something like this? There's nothing more beautiful than an expecting or nursing mother. People need to (re)learn the difference between "innocent" and "indecent". Do we ever stop & think that maybe the reason for all the behavior today is because of all the taboo we've put on things like this? There's also a mom bathing her baby & a girl in the shower in an everything gets clean segment. Nothing wrong with any of it. Calm down today people!

I disagree with the idea that this does not have the right target audience. Children who WERE breastfed and long with those who weren't sometimes do not have the opportunity to learn what breastfeeding is, and may not ask questions if they see someone in public for whatever reason. It's not that the parents are negligent, but that it just doesn't come up. By giving children an opportunity for prior exposure and a positive understanding, Big Bird is making life a little better for us all.
