In his 6-part oral history interview, producer/director Garry Marshall provides many entertaining anecdotes about his 40+ years in the TV business. He describes his early years as a journalist and his entry into comedy writing for "The Tonight Show" with Jack Paar. He talks about honing his craft as a writer on such 60s sitcoms as "The Joey Bishop Show", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", and "The Lucy Show". He speaks in detail about developing "The Odd Couple" for TV with his partner Jerry Belson. He then discusses helming some of the most 1970s popular sitcoms, including "Happy Days", "Laverne & Shirley", and "Mork & Mindy". For these shows he detailes the casting, development, and production as well as discusses the impact these series had on ABC. Finally, he briefly talks about his entry into feature filmmaking. • the odd couple was amazing and he was exactly right, with the live audience the show was better...on the other hand happy days was so corny and contrived i couldnt watch it...i was constantly switching to good times on tuesdays which was programmed head to head with happy days...my favorite gary marshall moment was as the casino boss in lost in america with albert brooks.
