No, what Bell want to say is if we claim something is spiritual , then there must be something not spiritual, so we can call it that. But there are not, so for Jesus everything is what we called it "spiritual", and it's beyond our understanding
@levelfour Oh absolutely I agree that Jesus understood things that we now call "spiritual" beyond our understanding. I don't believe that's what he's trying to say. Like cmahon said, Bell is actually making the point you just made. It's sort of silly that we even associate things as spiritual because EVERYTHING is spiritual. I think he's trying to say that the association implies that there are things that AREN'T spiritual. And Jesus would claim otherwise. Out of context it's confusing though.
that Jesus doesnt understand the word...but that he would find it odd talking about his "spirtual life" because for him that is like talking about his "living life". Because if you have life you are always living. For Jesus if he has life, it is always spirtual. I dont know if this makes sense...but I thought maybe it would clear some things up for you! (:
@levelfour Hey! I just wanted to point something out to you. i went to Rob Bell's website and here is something that was posted by Rob Bell about this video:
"In the Hebrew Scriptures there is no word for "spiritual." And Jesus never used the phrase "spiritual life." Because for Jesus and his tradition, all of life is spiritual."
I think what Rob is trying to say is that, with Jesus, all of his life is spirtual. Not
(continued): "Well, all I know about this is that they are attempting to teach the Bible in the normal language of everyday life. But it seems to be a movement leaning to the rational side of things. And the guy went to Moody Bible Institute in chicago, a non-charismatic sort of rational heavy place. Probably most young people we know don't need any more of the rational vs. spiritual stuff. They are already choking in it, about to pass into unconsciousness."
I'm just a Baptist farm boy guitar player, though I'm 60 and I have paid some attention to such things since I joined the church at age 9. Though, confused about why the 'young folk' are turning to this guy, I deferred to my lifelong pastor friend, who is more tolerant than I (sometimes). He's also got one of those dang doctorates in religion... He says: "Guess he ain't read John 3. What is Spirit is Spirit, what is flesh is flesh.
@Tatertot18 I listened. He may be smart, but he's nuts. Why should I listen further than the claim that Jesus somehow wouldn't understand the word/term 'spiritual' - Jesus understood spiritual beyond our understanding and differentiated between spiritual and otherwise many times. "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

@levelfour I would recommend watching a little more. You probably won't agree with everything he says but at least you won't think he's nuts.
