make sure the connections where the headshell goes into the tonearm are clean, make sure the stylus is good
you probably need a pre amp.

Have you used the Turntable before, if not does it need a pre-amp, im not sure as im a guitar player but from experience with my mixer (CD mixer) i would sometimes need a pre-amp to boost the signal if i plugged a Turntable in, Hope this helped and nice decks.

Sounds like a wiring problem to me - maybe a stray strand is bridging, or the connections are mixed up. I know you say you checked but do it with a mate there with you and you may spot something you missed.
Here's a vid for rewiring the SL1200, which is pretty much the same for the arm. Search for user ellaskins and search his vids for SL1200 - you'll see the two part tutorial on rewiring the arm.
Unless you've already seen it. But it definitely sounds like the signal is being grounded...
thank you for your post my friend, what im going to do is try and post a video of the wireing on the pcb. its a home made pcb board that i made my self.but i will take any advice at mo but i would just like to get it sorted.and i will have a look at the video and i see if i have missed anything. but ill keep you all posted thank you for looking though.
