I have known these pieces all my life , from playing them too, and allow me to say had learned it also from someone that won prizes in france for playing french music and the marguerite long (long ago, of course)..
I will say , from what I know, and personal taste, this young man IS a musician. iBEAUTIFUL tone and musical shaping of phrases and he BREATHES...beautiful playing that has left me more satisfied in his ondine than MANY well-known "great pianists".

Needless to say you're welcome, sir. Thank you for playing so beautifully. I didn't think all the comments I tried to post would appear, hence the redundancy.
Congratulations on your winning First Prize at the Paris Concours not long ago.
May I ask why you, apparently, took your website down? I hope that will be temporary.

I have just gone on youtube after some time. Thank you very much for your comments on my Gaspard.

You echo my own feelings about this performance very well, Tedly10027. Mr. Egerton-Smith gives a compellingly beautiful Account of Ondine. Wonderful tone, beautiful shading of dynamics that express poignant sentiment and mystery with deeply affective eloquence. It's rare when a performer appears both commanding and heartbreaking at once. I've listened to RES's Gaspard at least a hundred times now, and love and respect it more with each hearing. It's bewitching.

Thank you so much for saying that. I couldn't agree more. I just cannot understand why this highly distinguished performance of Gaspard has not received more attention and acclaim.
Rupert's SCARBO is very frankly the most satisfying I've ever heard. It compares favorably to the legendary accounts by Michelangeli and surpasses those of many "name" players.
Yet, the ratings of Rupert's Scarbo remain firmly stuck on four stars, when it deserves ten. That rankles; it's so unjust.

Haunting! Evocative! Casts a spell that perfectly conveys the longing, seductive lure and exquisite melancholy of Bertrand's poetry.
To say this is a brilliant performance would do it a disservice. It's far more significant. The perfect control of technical elements exhibited by Mr. Egerton-Smith transcends pianism and transports us to a unique atmosphere filled with enchanting -- sometimes chilling -- phantasmagoria.
I cannot praise this Gaspard adequately. It's absolutely enthralling.

This is one of the most musical and best performances of Gaspard I have ever heard. I was spellbound. Congratulations Rupert. You were wonderful!
