The families of more than 7,000 Haitians who died of cholera have reacted angrily to the UN's decision to reject their compensation claims.

Scientific studies suggest UN peacekeepers from Nepal brought cholera with them to Haiti sparking an outbreak in 2010.

The UN said it has diplomatic immunity from victims claims. But last December, it pledged $2.2bn to help eradicate the disease.

Al Jazeera's Rachel Levin reports from Port-au-Prince.

haiti does not have a military what would they have to contribute.on your other point people don't discredit the help the UN gives but at the same time it doesn't give them a pass to do these things.we can't let crimes happen just because you help.

The UN is the World Government, this is just s stark piece of evidence, they're immune, they can rape, they can kill, they can sell drugs, they can poop in your water... no compensation, just a World Colonialism, where you are powerless.

If it was possible to vote your comment down, that´s what I would do. These abuses are widely reported.

Wow, easy! I wasn't aware of those things not because it wasn't fed by the media, but because my life doesn't fucking revolve around Haiti. Sorry to burst your bubble, but we have our own issues to deal with in Canada. The fact that I know anything about Haiti is a positive. i bet most Haitians don't know shit about Canada...

i meant to mention some abuses by the UN.rapes and civilian casualties.but also by non UN personnel.the main thing im saying is they should help to eradicate the disease after all what other reason are they there.their is no war or refugee problems in Haiti just poverty which can not be solved with a foreign military force

Thank you! I don't agree with what the Haitians are doing (as per our argument), but there's no need to involve ignorance/racism/stupidity. I don't doubt for a second that the UN may have indeed caused the cholera outbreak. What I am arguing is that the UN has done much more good than bad, and the Haitians need to respect the amount of effort/money intended to help them. Accidents happen, and I'm sorry it did happen, but don't seek to reprimand the people who were only there trying to help you!

...and this is exactly why Nepal is a shit hole third world country. Do you think saying ignorant/racist things like that gets you anywhere, you fucking dimwit? Read my comments. I disagree with what the Haitians are doing in this case, but that doesn't give me or you a right to unleash ignorance/racism/and plain stupidity (especially in your case). Think before you talk if you don't want the world to laugh at you. Let's be honest, Nepal isn't much better than haiti ;)

What. The. Fuck. Are you claiming that the UN used "heavy weapons" and raped people? Wtf is wrong with you? Haiti gave rights for the UN to operate in the country! If these things were happening, why was none of it reported? Even then, it isn't my problem if some other country's UN workers caused problems. Haiti needs to deal with that. All I know is that my country's effort/money aimed at helping Haiti isn't being appreciated! Canada should've never sent any help if this is the outcome.

How do you sound right now? So its okay to kill millions because you had donated money to them. What if that happen in your country? would it be fine, if an organization who suppose to help you come into your country spread cholora, rape litle boyz and girls, use heavy weapons in populated area!! Still face no prosecution for they actions. Also If tommorrow the UN leaves haiti, it would be fine because haiti does need peace keepers haiti isnt at war or have armed conflict with anyone.
