This Polar Bear camped out right at our tundra buggy, begging, then lunging for food. However, feeding the bears is illegal. A segment from "Polar Bear Pueblo", an Intrepid Berkeley Explorer free, two-country video. The film starts in New Mexico with the Carlsbad Caverns, Taos Pueblo, White Sands, Roswell, Santa Fe, and much more. Moving north, it then features the incredible polar bears of Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, as seen from a tundra buggy.

  • If you like this sample clip, please consider watching the complete free video it comes from, a pairing of two trips that begins in New Mexico, followed by Churchill. It's entitled "Polar Bear Pueblo". You need a broadband internet connection. Ask a search engine for: Intrepid Berkeley Explorer

  • Did you feed him?

  • Feeding the Polar Bears is prohibited. I never saw anyone feed a bear. Yet several bears acted as if they expected food from the tundra buggies. In nature Polar Bears don't even eat at this time; waiting for Hudson's Bay to freeze so they can go hunting for seals at air holes on the ice.

  • Why do they prohibit it? Are they concerned the bears will become dependant upon it?

I was also wondering what the hunting laws are on the bears? Is there a ban yet?

  • The bears are clearly protected from hunting. The ban on feeding is to keep then wild. The worst bear crime is entering the town of Churchill. That leads to the bear jail, whose inmates are released to the ice after it freezes.

  • it looks all sad like my dog when he wants food. haha.

  • They're doing whatever it takes to not starve and survive. This is actually quite sad that people want them to go to this limit just for a little mockery of the species.

  • Oh, please feed him for Christ's sake!

  • @Brigette00 Well thats not the case for most polar bears. all they need to wait for is the ice to freeze so they can go hunting for seals. if we feed them it is only going to make them dependant on us for food and will ultimately kill them.

  • sooo cuteee *__*

  • the old "please drop a child out the window" look

  • fuck da law and feed dat bear!

  • @Brigette00 buzz kill

It's in one of the more recent Polar Bear books, but a chapter on the Tundra Buggy enterprise included an anecdote in which a bear in just such an adorable pose suddenly reared up and filleted the arm of a passenger who had been about to toss him something.

  • I'd like to stroke a polar bear! - Do'ya think it'd rip my arm off though?lol!

  • how would you know? have you been up to the northern tip of ontario and searched for polar bears? lol i doubt it. And btw you made your self sound like an idiot by saying your from Toronto, like thats close to northern ontario or something.. not tryin to be rude, just honest

  • they are in Ontario too, we toured James bay on a school trip and saw them from our boat, amazing
