Bringing one vessel alongside another craft when moving takes real skill and total concentration on the part of the helmsman. Many organisations need to conduct Boarding Operations whether to transfer crew between craft or to insert a 'team' to search a craft or just to review paperwork. Almost every time this occurs it is unopposed and the Skipper can focus on driving the vessel. In some situations though a more assertive approach is necessary to ensure the other vessel complies. Training Boarding Operations and Pacing is key if Skippers are to be able to keep their boarding party safe and effect a safe transfer of personnel. Training sessions focus on a variety of scenarios at a variety of speeds and use various craft for practice. PLEASE NOTE: i) Such training is not RYA accredited nor can occur as part of a RYA course ii) These exercises whilst they look straightforward can be extremely dangerous. It is recommended that such manouvres only occur under the guidance of suitably experienced personnel.
