Leaders of some of the world's richest countries are heading to Japan for their annual meeting.

This year's G8 summit will focus on African development issues, skyrocketing fuel prices and the possibility of worldwide economic recession.

Japan think part of the solution to the rising cost of fuel, and a way to reduce green house emissions, is nuclear energy.

Paul Allen reports.

  • Since Fukushima Japan has decided to build a huge national solar power array to REPLACE nuclear

Solar will be cheaper than coal in 10 years

  • @Kamadeva01 Or just keep using them with fission reactors!

  • @hesperius Atomkraft ja bitte.

  • why energy nuclear

  • Atomkraft nein danke

  • I second.

  • Plutonium only good for making bombs?

"PUREX (PlutoniumURanium EXtraction) reprocesses spent nuclear fuel to extract uranium and plutonium to form a mixed oxide (MOX) fuel for reuse in nuclear reactors. Weapons grade plutonium can be added to the fuel mix."

"as of 2003 there were somewhere between 50 and 100 plutonium-powered pacemakers"

"Plutonium-238 mixed with beryllium is used to generate neutrons for research purposes."

Bad newscaster, bad. And the above is just the stuff I skimmed over.
