First make the solution; solution makes the bleach; bleach makes the purified water.
Solution: 1 heaping tsp. of pool shock to 2 gallons of water= Solution
Bleach: 1/4 cup solution to 1.5 gallons (6 quarts) of water= Bleach
Water Purifier: 4/5 drops to a gallon of water= Purified Water

@brawny03 I caught that on the Blog :) Nother lil hobo tip, Pool Chlorine is a cheap source And just as effective. Google has a few different strengths, But your 15ppm sounds like a great starting place.

@Dagrsen I did some research on that and learned about using charcoal, leaves and sand in a survival situation, so thanks for the heads up on that. A person can never have too many tricks up their sleeve!

@brawny03 Much the same as the Bandanna Yes The two act as finer filters for the water too pass through. When ya use this tech tho, it's kinda like an Egyptian well set up ( Digging to the run off table a few feet away from the main body of water, much like at beaches when water filled holes) Activated Charcoal Has been used as part of water Filters for years Just that it's usually a fish tank filter ( grey water)

@Dagrsen Charcoal or sand will kill bacteria? I worked at a hospital. We used 50 ppm to sanitize tables, only 15 pmm to spray fruits and vegetables to ward against dangerous organisms.
The bandanna filters a lot of fine dirt and large bacteria, I'm interested in the sand idea, and charcoal!

Charcoal/Sand are great alternatives to bleach as well. Great lil system tho!!
is that by chance an A.T. "mapdanna" such as I have purchased from Anti Gravity Gear? LOL

boiling water is alot healthier then bleach

@demonokron I would prefer to boil as well, sometimes a hiker doesn't have time, so we filter water through a banadanna, add a drop or two of bleach, and hike away. After half an hour the bleach/cholorine has done its job.
