@Robertjcksn40 The fact that the Union's primary objective was self preservation, does not change the fact that the South's primary objective, was the preservation of slavery.
Once AGAIN..."The South fought on account of the thing we quarreled with the North about. I never heard of any other cause for quarrel, than slavey"...The CSA's gray ghost, John Singleton Mosby.
@Robertjcksn40 Did you not read the quotes from Presbyterian scholars in Scotland? The war started because the South seceded. The South seceded over the issue of slavery...especially the EXPANSION of slavery. Southern states made that clear in their documents & speeches AT THE TIME.
Don't wanna answer that question, do ya. CSA Kool Aid drinkers never do.
@TheWildbison LOL. Proof? How 'bout the fact that cotton can't be grown commercially in any of those states. Proof of that decline is evident in the numbers of slaves compared to cotton producing states...with one exception. Virginia. Not a major player in the cotton industry, but heavily involved in the domestic slave trade between Southern states.
@pho20jo The South seceded for exactly the reasons they proclaimed to the rest of the world, in their various secession documents and speeches...the protection and expansion of slave rights.
@lightning267100 What a dumb comment. The CSA was founded by and for the South's elite...the people who profited from the institution of slavery...and owned most of the South's four million slaves. People like Wade Hampton III.
Ever hear of the Twenty Slave Law?...look it up.
Take the time to research the US Census figures from 1860. They break down each state and territory's slave/free populations. Guess what?
@playboy95338 You're a tool. The first Republican Pres. candidate Southerner John C. Fremont...he moved to California, and didn't want to see the evils of the South's plantation economy forced on the West, by Southern politicians in control of the Fed. People like US Sec. of War Jeff Davis...a man who believed that newly formed states had no right to vote for themselves, on the issue of slavery.
