@Robertjcksn40 Did you not read the quotes from Presbyterian scholars in Scotland? The war started because the South seceded. The South seceded over the issue of slavery...especially the EXPANSION of slavery. Southern states made that clear in their documents & speeches AT THE TIME.

@TheWildbison LOL. Proof? How 'bout the fact that cotton can't be grown commercially in any of those states. Proof of that decline is evident in the numbers of slaves compared to cotton producing states...with one exception. Virginia. Not a major player in the cotton industry, but heavily involved in the domestic slave trade between Southern states.

Take the time to research the US Census figures from 1860. They break down each state and territory's slave/free populations. Guess what?

Fremont...he moved to California, and didn't want to see the evils of the South's plantation economy forced on the West, by Southern politicians in control of the Fed. People like US Sec. of War Jeff Davis...a man who believed that newly formed states had no right to vote for themselves, on the issue of slavery.
