  • Nice fly.

    If you're fishing in fall, then the hackle, and two tone body is unnecessary.

    A key note to mention is that waterboatmen do not get larger than 1/2 an inch, so flies should be tied on the modest size to better match the naturals. They are at their largest in the fall.

    Another thing to mention is that a dark body and light shell back corresponds to a backswimmer, which is a cousin of the waterboatmen that delivers a nasty bite like a wasp.

    Fish know this and will avoid your fly.
