woah is that the way violin mantids always catch food? ...just kinda fall on it? ...I can imagine why, with all the top-weight...pretty sweet!

Mantises are kinda like, mutated, and highly evolved version of the cockroach, which is their closest living relatives.

@FR3DKRU3G3R Climate change, splitting of land masses & depleting of food supply over millions of years of evolution has forced a specie to branch off because of this. They have to evolve, or the species will die..

@FR3DKRU3G3R The best method to compare both cockroaches & mantises are really related to each other, is by looking at the underside (right by the base of their legs) of both insects. If you can go to Google image, and type in => "praying mantis underside" & compare it to "cockroaches underside," you will notice that the base of their legs are almost identical :D

@jerumd Very facinating stuff - I wish I knew what made them branch off into two totally different species like that. I never would have guessed they were related by looking at them.

@FR3DKRU3G3R I hate roaches too but, believe it or not, that's how evolution works when it comes to survival by splitting the species into three; Omnivore, Herbivore, to Carnivore..
-
@jerumd It's sort of ironic, I can't stand roaches, I think they are disgusting, but I adore the praying mantis. XD

Most of the time you just don't bring down the fly swatted fast enough and the fly just gets away. The mantis made catching flys look zoo easy
