Maurice gave the song to the diamonds to record, at the time in the 50's white artist were played all the time on all radio stations but black artist were not. I'ts sad but true thats why the Diamonds recorded it. They did a great job. Back in those days Georgia Gidds and Pat Boone recorded a lot of the black songs by Lavern Baker and Little Richard. Just not fair, and Georgia and Pat could never in a million years sing the song as good as Lavern or Little Richard.
I think it's cool that Maurice went with the minor chord from 0:56 to 1:00 which is reminiscent of The Diamonds version. There's a difference between the gladiolas and diamonds if you listen real close to the tracks.
