How do you become a disciple of Jesus?
First we are not saved by our choice, but by God's choice.
John 14:14 ESV
"If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it."
It's call Grace! Grace is something we can ask for and have it given even though we don't deserve it.
Romans 3:24 ESV
"and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,"
Ephesians 1:7 ESV
"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,"
Admit that you are a sinner.
Believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
Confess your sins to Jesus in prayer.
Invite His Holy Spirit to live in you and through you to others.
Pray to God in everything and seek His word [the Bible].
Count on God for everything.
Follow His word.
Live His word.
Eat His word, pray, love and share and turn away from your old wicked ways.
Find a church that will spiritually feed you, help you grow in fellowship with others and help others grow in turn.
Being a disciple of Jesus is not an easy pat you choose for now the war and attacks will begin from the enemy [satan] that once already had you.
Deciding to be a disciple of Jesus is the most important, and the best decision you could make in your life. The first thing you should do to be a disciple of Jesus is to accept him as your personal Lord and Saviour into your life. To do this you have to accept the fact that you are a sinner and that Jesus came into this world to die for your sins. This is called repenting. Since Jesus came to this world to die for our sins, we are now cleansed of all our sins. This gives us the opportunity to go to the place God has prepared for us in Heaven. As the wages of sin is death, if Jesus hadn't died for our sins we will be rotting in hell after we died. Imagine the love Jesus had for us, to die on the cross so that we, who are sinners, could go to Heaven. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, so that whoever believes in him shall nit perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
So now, all we have to do is accept God into our lives. After we accept God into our lives we have to live a life pleasing to God, as his disciples. We should read the Bible everyday and see what God has to tell us. This will help us in our day to day lives and give us the strength to live as God's disciples. It will also help us to find out God's plan in our lives, to live according to his will and to become more Christ like by doing what the Bible says. To be a disciple of Jesus, we should also do whatever he has commanded us to do. We should pray everyday thanking him for whatever he has given us, asking forgiveness for our sins and praying for others as well as ourselves. We should be witnesses of Jesus. To do this we have to be examples wherever we are. We should always do whatever is right even though the others around us do the wrong thing. This will enable the others to see Christ in us. We should also tell others about Jesus, so that they also will be able to accept Jesus into their lives just like you (we would be selfish keeping the most precious thing in our lives only to ourselves). These are the very first steps to being a disciple of Jesus. Doing your devotions and praying will make you stronger, and help you to grow in your faith, and also help you in your walk with Jesus. For more information on how to be a disciple of Jesus, you can read various books like 'Our Daily Bread' and 'The Upper Room'. You could also get help from other believers and your local Christian leaders (Pastors, YFC leaders etc....).
