Shandi Wagner, 22, is a double-major graduate of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, Class of 2009. This is a remarkable achievement, especially since Shandi underwent surgery to remove a spinal cord tumor in 2008. Doctors in Minnesota referred Shandi to the pediatric neurosurgery program of Michael Edwards, MD, chief of pediatric neurosurgery at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford. In this June 18, 2009 video, Shandi, her mom Carol and Dr. Edwards discuss the surgery and recovery.

  • My daugheter was in the care of Dr. Ivan Cheng at LPCH. After an MRI revealed that it was not Idiopathic Scoliosis she was diagnosed with Chiari 1 Malformation and Neurogenic Scoliosis. She was immediately referred to the Pediatric Neurosurgery Department. Within 3 weeks she had an appointment to see Dr. Edwards and 2 weeks later she had the surgery to correct her condition. She is now home recovering nicely. Our experience with Dr. Edwards, his team, and LPCH has been a true blessing.
