only problem is the casualty report, this was the only battle in us history where american casualties were higher than the number of enemies involved in the battle. 6,821 died on the normandy invasion and that was army

Brendan, You did a great job on this. I'd give you an A+. My dad was on Iwo Jima but after the main battle. There were still Japanese on the island for several years. I don't see how they survived that long.

You erred about when the flags were raised over Suribachi ~ it was on 23Feb45, the FIFTH day of the battle, not the THIRD day, as you stated. And your casualty figures are slightly wrong ~ 6,821 officially KIA. One-third of all US Marines killed during WWII died on Iwo Jima (called "Ioto", in Japanese). Somebody says you got a B+ for this? More important: WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THIS?
