I like this Franklin Covey short -- it just sums up how most people crack on with the "Day Job" and "Real Work" and forget the plan or strategy.

It's not that they aren't working hard or that the boss is a bad leader --they're all working hard to battle through the jungle, but they're marching in the wrong direction - and when they finish cutting through the undergrowth and come out on the wrong side, they'll probably blame the strategy rather than their own inability to execute it.

So how do you create a strategy and keep everyone moving towards a successful outcome?

Franklin Covey reckon there are 4 essential disciplines

1. Focus on the wildly important
2. Act on the lead measures
3. Keep a compelling scoreboard
4. Create a cadence of accountability

It's said that a mediocre strategy well executed is infinitely more valuable than a brilliant strategy that sits on the shelf.

So work out which symphony you want your orchestra to play, set a date for the concert, write out a piece for each individual involved, keep a visible rehearsal log (we all play better when we're keeping score) and make sure that everyone is held accountable for playing their part!

Best regards
